ProsperUS to Congress: No More Delay – Invest in Jobs and Families Now
Washington, D.C. – Monday marks the Biden administration’s self-imposed deadline to reach a bipartisan deal on critical investments in the country’s infrastructure. Claire Guzdar, spokesperson for ProsperUS, released the following statement in response:
“The President’s Memorial Day deadline is around the corner and there is absolutely no reason to allow a minority of senators to block deeply needed investments that will support workers, families, and the economy. People need more than the president initially proposed, not less.
“A month ago, we called on Congress to meet the historic demands of this moment and give workers, families, and communities the resources they need to survive the pandemic and thrive in the future. One month later, despite overwhelming public support for additional significant federal investments, we’re still waiting. With every week that passes, more and more workers, families, and businesses suffer the severe consequences and we face greater risk of another devastatingly slow economic recovery.
“It’s time for Congress to build on the President’s proposals and move forward without delay.”
ADDITIONAL BACKGROUND
A recent survey from ProsperUS and Data for Progress found that the majority of voters across party lines want more economic relief now.
61% of likely voters support a larger package than Biden’s proposals, including 53% of independents.
57% of voters want more economic relief now and say we can’t afford to wait, with particularly strong support among younger voters and voters of color.
