Progressive Coalition to Congress: $1.5T is a Non-Starter

Washington, DC – Today, ProsperUS coalition spokesperson Claire Guzdar released the following statement on the state of the Build Back Better negotiations:

“We applaud House Democrats for sticking to their word last week and recommitting to advancing President Biden’s full Build Back Better agenda together. But now we want to be very clear: the conservative, underfunded $1.5 trillion proposal is an absolute non-starter.

“Any additional cuts to the Build Back Better agenda would threaten the fragile economic recovery and represent a massive missed opportunity for President Biden and Congress to deliver the real and lasting results for families and communities they promised. Underfunded, means-tested, half-measures won’t meet the needs of families, communities, or the economy. We have less than four weeks to pass the full Build Back Better agenda. We strongly oppose any attempts to further delay or hollow out the critical investments needed for a just and equitable future.”
