ProsperUS to Budget Committee Leaders: Deliver a Budget that Meets Urgency of Moment

Progressive coalition calls for legislation to make historic investments in families, climate, and the economy

Washington, D.C. (July 1, 2021) — Yesterday, Claire Guzdar, spokesperson for ProsperUS, released the following statement as House and Senate Budget Committees work on their respective budget resolutions. The FY2022 budget will set the contours of legislation to deliver on the promises made to invest in climate, care, racial justice, and jobs.

“Today, we sent a letter to Chairman Sanders and Chairwoman Jayapal thanking them for holding steadfast in their commitment to making bold investments in workers, families, climate, and the economy. Now, we call on the House and Senate Budget Committees to deliver a budget that meets the urgency of this moment.

“This is not a moment to revert to the failed austerity policies of the past or shrink our ambitions for the future. The Budget Committees should build on the Biden Administration’s proposals and resist cuts that hurt workers, families, and communities and undermine our economic recovery. We have a rare window to take action and we cannot afford to delay any longer.”
